The trail head begins overlooking the backside of MT Baldy. It is a hike for intermediate to advanced hikers. The trail starts at 6500 FT and takes us up to 9400 FT. This is a hike for intermediate to advanced hikers. If you hike, run, bike or play sports 2-3 times a week for 1-2 hours at a time, you should enjoy this hike. It is switchbacks most of way up and down. Much of the hike is under the cover of pine trees. The view from the top is worth the hike! Plan on 2 hours up and 1 hour+ down. It's an 8-mile roundtrip hike. You should bring 3-4 bottles of water (or 2-3 liters), a snack or lunch, sunscreen and friends that are willing to climb a mountain. The drive each way is about 1.5 hours. The trail head is about 15 minutes past the Wrightwood Ski & Mountain Board Resorts. I've seen, bears, lions, snakes, deer, hawks, 18 inch lizards, bobcats, coyotes, squirrels, Wookies (On earth Bigfoot - Ha! Ha!) ravens, a group of Nuns dressed in their Nunnery, Gliders and a California Condor, all while hiking this trail numerous times from 1996 to present.
The drive is about 1.5 hours each way from church. The trail head is about 15 minutes past the Wrightwood Ski & Mountain Board Resorts. There is a Ranger Station just past the ski resorts. You'll need a Forest Adventure Pass.
