May Hike - Lytle Creek
Saturday May 31st
This is a hike for Intermediate Hikers. This is one of my favorite hikes! It has a few challenging sections, but the last mile of the hike makes it all worth it! The roundtrip hike is about 6.5 miles. The hike takes you from about 3800 FT and up to about 5300 FT. This trail runs above and along a mountain stream. Unfortunately, along the 1st mile of the trail, there was a fire that burned up much of the pine trees and vegetation a couple of years ago, but after that it remains untouched! This trail offers spectacular views of the stream. The hike ends at a triple, 150 ft waterfall!
Caution! If it is a hot day (80 degrees+), I would suggest not joing us for this hike unless you are really used to exercising outdoors in like heat. If it is too hot (over 90 degrees) we'll cancel the hike a few days before.
Be sure to bring friends, 2-3 bottles of water, a snack or lunch, sunscreen, a bible or devotional book and gas money to give to those driving ($5 is fine). It should be shorts + T-shirt weather, but bring a jacket or sweatshirt or dress accordingly. You should wear comfortable walking, running or hiking shoes that you don't mind getting a bit dirty. There's usually 10-20 people that join us for the hikes.
We will be meeting at the church at 8:45AM and returning by 4:30-5:30PM
We'll may need 2-3 trucks to traverse a 3-mile dirt road!
To get to this trail, you take the 91E, 15N, exit Sierra Ave & make a left. On the left there a good place to get snacks, gas or use the restroom. From here you'll want to continue down Sierra towards the mountains for about 4 miles. About a mile or so past the Ranger Station, we'll make a left on Middle Creek Rd. We'll take this road, which quickly becomes a dirt road, for about 3-miles to the trail head. When we reach the dirt road, we'll all load into the trucks for last 3-miles.
If it is raining, or soon to be raining, the hike is canceled. If you're not sure check the web site the morning of the hike and I'll have the hike listed as "Go or No Go" in bottom left corner of this page by 7AM. In the event the hike needs to be canceled before then, you'll see a "No Go" sign at least a few days in advance.
