Idlywild
Idylwild is a great place to getaway for the day or the weekend! There are plenty of campgrounds or motels. In town there's good shopping and restaurants. There are as many hiking trails as Yosemite if not more and the the many of the views are comparable!

To get there take the 91E, 10E, exit on HWY 243 (30-40 miles), turn right at the end of the off-ramp and take HWY 243 all the way up to Idylwild
(25-30 miles or 40-50 minutes).

I suggest going into town early and head to the Ranger Station to get trail maps. They open at 8 or 9am.
