April Hike
Saturday, April 26th
On Saturday, April 26th we'll be heading out to hike out in Ortega Canyon. The hike starts at about 2000FT and brings us to about 3000FT. The hike is about a 5-6 mile round-trip. This is hike is rated beginning to intermediate. So long as you exercise (walk, run, bike) on a regular basis (1-2 days a week), you should be able to enjoy the hike with some effort applied. There are a couple of challenging sections that will be a workout for most people. The hike takes us up a mountain ridge and in and out of forested areas. We will end up on top a mesa overlooking the San Meteo Wilderness Area. We will have a time for lunch and prayer at the top of the ridge.
God and weather willing, we will be meeting at the church at 8:45AM and leaving by 9AM. We should finish the hike by 2PM and be back to the church by 3PM. The drive each way is about an hour. You may meet us there. We should be there by 10AM and starting the hike by 10:15AM or so.
Directions
We will be taking Red Hill to a left on Baker to the 405S - 5S and then exiting on the Ortega Canyon exit. We make a left over the freeway and we'll take this road the rest of the way to the trailhead (about a 30 minute drive from this point). We may need to buy a National Forest Adventure Day Parking Pass for each car. They cost $5 each, so everyone please bring a $1 for that. We'll be parking across the street from a country store at which we can buy snacks & drinks and the parking passes if needed.
If it is raining, or soon to be raining, the hike is canceled. If you're not sure check the web site the morning of the hike and I'll have the hike listed as "Go or No Go" as it is listed in bottom left corner of this page by 8AM. In the event the hike needs to be canceled before then, you'll see a "No Go" sign at least a few days in advance.
Be sure to bring friends, 2-3 bottles of water, a snack, sunscreen, a bible or devotional book and gas money to give to those driving ($2-$3 is fine). It should be shorts + T-shirt weather, but bring a jacket or sweatshirt or dress accordingly. You should wear comfortable walking, running or hiking shoes that you don't mind getting a bit dirty. There's usually 10-20 people that come along for the hikes.
I hope you can make it!
God Bless,
Randy Smith
